While originally conceived to be a business, TV Humboldt is currently just for fun, and being reserved to be the local promotional arm of the Folk Media Society. Below is our original vision statement.

TV Humboldt's Vision Statement

At TV Humboldt, we seek to bring excellent video entertainment with a uniquely local flavor to a broad and ever-growing audience of Humboldt County residents. We seek to guide our audience into this new era of online video -- to accustom them to getting their video entertainment over the internet, and to thinking of their computers as a real alternative to television.

We aim to turn the old model of commercial TV on it's head by adapting it to a Web 2.0 environment, so that our content is generated by a diverse community of audience members, instead of by media elites in Hollywood, New York, and other far-off places. We're helping entertainment return to its roots, so that it once again becomes a participatory, community-based activity.

We want to expand the range of artistry, communication, and entertainment possibilities in Humboldt County. We seek to help open minds, broaden the collective conversation, and make brand new & exciting things happen! We're setting out to dazzlingly demonstrate the amazing possibilities for us all in this new Age of Folk Media.

We seek to give people voice to become more powerful artists & communicators by:

• providing them with valuable help in creating, distributing, & monetizing their media;
• enabling them to much more easily network, cohort, and collaborate with each other;
• catalyzing a cross-pollenization of creative ideas between media-makers;
• invoking an increasing sense of community and shared destiny among local media-makers;
• providing encouragement and incentives for local media-makers to collaborate on their media projects, so that teamwork becomes the norm, even in small-scale "folk media."

As we facilitate an increase in collaboration, we believe that local media will get better and better, and that this process will facilitate a revolutionary shift in the dominant media paradigm -- with Humboldt as a major epicenter of the transformation.

In addition to our TV channel and online networking tools for video-makers, we also aim to be the undisputed local authority on the delivery of internet video, and to provide many consulting and content delivery services to local businesses and media-makers. We intend to be a leading Humboldt County media outlet and the local leader in internet video delivery.

TV Humboldt intends to make healthy profits by providing positive and meaningful services to the community. As a project of the Folk Media Society (or "the Society"), we also seek to be the spawning grounds for revolutionary new models of media creation, organization, and delivery, and to assist the Society in developing other projects that will spread these new models far beyond Humboldt County. We believe that being of genuine service to media-makers, we stand to profit amply in the emerging new media environment.

We work in keeping with the Society's mission and its strategy to help reshape the business of media so that it becomes more diverse, more fair, more open, and better equipped to be a meaningful check on government and other powerful entities and institutions.
