Welcome to TV Humboldt
The Online TV Channel for Humboldt County, CA

The TV Humboldt Revenue-Sharing System:

NOTE: TV Humboldt is starting out as a noncommercial channel. Currently, anything on the channel that appears to be a commercial is actually an UNPAID business message. We aim to become a commercial channel as soon as is feasible, but must start out noncommercial, for various reasons.

The revenue-sharing system described below will not go into effect until we become a commercial channel that runs paid ads.
You can help that happen sooner by uploading your videos directly to us. (The more videos we have on our system, the less we have to rely on Youtube. Once we're independent of Youtube, we can run the channel on our own, higher-quality HumVidX video player, and start charging to run advertisements).

At that time, we'll begin sharing the advertising revenue according to the system described on this page.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

How our revenue-sharing system will work:

When you submit your videos to us, you’ll need to provide us with your current primary e-mail address, which is where we’ll send notification if we decide to run your video on TV Humboldt. If you don’t respond to our notification within 14 days, your right to a share of the earnings will be forfeited, so it’s important we have your current primary e-mail address at all times, and that you check your messages often enough that you won’t miss our e-mail!

For each weekly TV Humboldt video loop* that contains video ads, we’ll enter into our revenue-sharing spreadsheet all the data concerning whose videos we played, how many minutes each video was, and how much revenue was generated by video commercials in that week’s loop. Participating video producers collectively share 20% of all “shareable ad revenue.” That 20% is split up in proportion to the length of the producers’ videos, rounded to the nearest quarter-minute. The example below should make that easier to understand.

EXAMPLE:
As a hypothetical example, let’s say that we play your 10 minute video on TV Humboldt one week. And let’s say that

* other participating video producers provide a total of 35 minutes of video,
* our staff provides 15 minutes of content, and
* video advertisements in that week's programming loop bring in a total of $700.

To Simplify:
Your video   =  10 minutes
TV Humboldt staff's videos =  15 minutes
Other Participants' videos =  35 minutes
TOTAL LENGTH =  60 minutes (not counting ads)

and Total ad revenue =  $700

Because our staff created 15 minutes of content out of the total of 60 minutes, 25% of the content was created in-house, and is therefore not subject to revenue-sharing. But you and other participants provided 45 minutes out of that 60 minutes, or 75% of it, so the “shareable ad revenue” is 75% of $700, or $525.

Now, since we share at 20%, participants will split $105 (which is 20% of $525).

Now to see how much a participant-provided video earns per minute, divide that $105 by the number of minutes (45), and we get $2.33 per minute.

To calculate how much you would earn in this example with your video, multiply the per-minute rate of $2.33 by your video's length of 10 minutes, and we get your total share of revenue: $23.33.

The actual amount will vary from week to week depending on each week's unique data. To assure that all our participating video producers can check our math, each week's data will be available to all Media Makers Club members in weekly reports in this forum.

For now, we’ll be paying by checks through the mail**, but that may change as we streamline the system, so we might require you get a paypal account that we can credit in the future or some other such arrangement***.

* Only the revenue from video ads that play in the weekly "TV Humboldt" programming loop is subject to revenue-sharing. Other advertisements on our websites (including video ads) are not subject to revenue-sharing. Note: Any time we run a "noncommercial" version of the TV Humboldt programming loop, no revenue will be shared, as our noncommercial loops contain no paid ads.

** You must provide us with your mailing address when we request it, or you won't be eligible to receive revenue-sharing payments.

*** IMPORTANT: We may modify our revenue-sharing policy at any time, or discontinue it altogether, with or without notifying you, and at our sole discretion. Any time the policy is changed, the description of the policy on this web page (tvhumboldt.com/revsharing.html) will be modified to reflect those changes. If you submit content to TV Humboldt, it is your responsibility to check this page at any given time to learn what revenue-sharing policy, if any, is currently in place.
